The Centro de Artes e Criatividade (CAC) of Torres Vedras focuses on Carnival, showing the artistic expressions of a celebration marked all over the world.
The permanent exhibition Carnival: Rites, Arts and Creativity show a cultural multiplicity that has Carnival as its common denominator, and where the history, the arts and the protagonists of the Carnival of Torres Vedras could not be missing.
Focusing its content and activity on Carnival, this equipment aims to promote the development of artistic practices and creativity as forms of social inclusion, with positive effects on the sense of belonging in the communities of Encosta de São Vicente and the city of Torres Vedras.
Taking into account the growing social and economic importance of the Carnival of Torres Vedras, the Centre for Arts and Creativity also aims to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and the development of the local economic fabric.
In parallel, the CAC aims to inventory, document and preserve its collection, namely to safeguard and divulge the documentary and artistic heritage related to the Torres Vedras Carnival and its associated themes. It aims to collect and safeguard the material (and immaterial) testimonies of the Torres Vedras Carnival as collective heritage, namely by creating a repository of community memories of the local Carnival. It also seeks to establish partnerships and/or national and international networks with universities and/or museological institutions linked to the Carnival and its arts, contributing to its study and dissemination.
