Belém Cultural Centre was designed by architects Vittorio Gregotti and Manuel Salgado. It was thought of as an "open city", consisting of buildings, streets, squares and bridges. In direct dialogue with Tagus River and the monumental Praça do Império, flanked by Jerónimos Monastery and extensive gardens, it celebrates culture, opening its intense program to all forms of cultural manifestation. But this cultural centre of national and international reference, this microcity of contemporary monumentality, is also the ideal venue for holding congresses, conferences and all kinds of institutional and business events. In fact, one of its three modules, the Meetings Centre that forms the Praça do Império facade overlooking the Jerónimos Monastery and the Tagus River, was specially designed for this use.
