A new Congress Centre in Pavilion of Portugal
The University of Lisboa (ULisboa), which managed the former Pavilion of Portugal, built for Expo 98, has just had the green light from the Government for the building's requalification and is turning it into a congress, exhibition and reception centre for international visitors. The investment, in a total of 9.3 million euros, will be applied between 2019 and 2021.
According to a resolution approved by the Council of Ministers, the new congress centre will offer "a multipurpose auditorium with a capacity of 650 seats, allowing its subdivision into two autonomous auditoriums, a minimum set of 9 rooms, with wide areas allowing interconnection, reception and support rooms".
In addition, the building will also feature "a modular exhibition centre where different exhibitions can be organised simultaneously, aimed, in particular, at the dissemination and promotion of knowledge and public use of the vast scientific, cultural and artistic heritage of ULisboa", as well as "a visitor reception centre, suitable for Ulisboa's growing internationalisation, allowing reception services for students, teachers and researchers associated with academic activity," the document reads.
Also established in the same document is that the work in this infrastructure will be "supported by funds from ULisboa budget, assured by general and own revenues in the proportion of 43.4% and 56.4%, respectively" .
