Santo da Serra Golf Club overlooks Machico Bay, where for the first time the Discoverers landed on the island of Madeira.
The first course built in 1937 was redesigned in 1991 by golf architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., who created a new 27-hole course in one of the most beautiful natural landscapes. Holes 3 and 4 in the Machico course are the brand image for anyone who plays this course.
The Machico and Desertas courses are played by professionals at the Madeira Islands Open, integrated in the PGA European Tour. The Serras course is a pleasant alternative with lakes, mountain views and flat land.
The Santo da Serra Golf Course offers its visitors ample and diversified facilities. "A very nice Clubhouse" was thus described by Seve Ballesteros in 2001 when he played in the Madeira Islands Open.
The training ground is equipped with a practice zone, with two putting-greens, a chipping green, a bunker green and a driving range with three levels, one of them in covered area. The Pro-shop has the latest golf collections, as well as equipment for rental: complete bags, trolleys and buggies.
The Golf Academy provides technical training by a highly qualified professional, with lessons to individuals or groups.
