Portuguese Grand Prix rejoins Formula 1 World Championship

“We are very excited to announce that Formula 1 will once again race in Portimão” – these were the words chosen by Stefano Domenicali to announce the return of the Portuguese Grand Prix to the Algarve, in 2021. The event also took place in the Algarve International Racetrack, in 2020, after 24 years absence from Portugal.
The Portuguese Grand Prix will happen from April 30th. to May 2nd., as part of the 23 F1 races in FIA’s 2021 calendar. The possibility of this year’s event having an audience is being worked closely between the organizer, the promoter and the Portuguese Government, focusing safety issues as a priority.
Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism, highlighted that "The holding of major events in our country, is very important for the image and international promotion of Portugal as a tourist destination", so she sees "with great pleasure (...) the return of Formula 1 to the Algarve in 2021."
