Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada Airports were distinguished by ACI Europe, International Airport Organization, in the “Best Airport” and “Best Hygiene Measures” categories.

These awards recognize five Airports of Portugal for their constant commitment with experience, safety and protection measures for passengers in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, in partnership with the Health authorities.

The “Best Airport” award is named according to its dimension in the European region of airports. The distinction for Lisbon occurs in the category of 25 to 40 million passengers. Porto and Faro win at 5 and 15 million passengers and Ponta Delgada at airports with less than 2 million passengers.
In the context of the current coronavirus pandemic, ACI instituted the “Hygiene Award” in order to recognize airport infrastructures for their ability to ensure hygienic and safe environments and the maintenance of the necessary measures to meet the needs and expectations of passengers. In this new category, the airports of Porto, Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada stood out among the best in Europe.

The ACI – Airports Council International represents over 500 airports in 45 countries, awards were awarded under the international ASQ program, Quality of Airport Services, which aims to measure the overall satisfaction of passengers with the services and products provided, and also to understand how their expectations have been changing.

Thierry Liggonière, CEO of ANA Aeroportos de Portugal, commented the importance of this recognition, stating that “these awards indicate that we are on the right path for the resumption of the aviation market, with the necessary confidence in the new passenger experience”.
