With an invaluable heritage nucleus - Villa, Park and Museum - classified as National Monument in 2012, Serralves is one of the most important artistic and cultural centres in Portugal.
The Villa, home to the Foundation and currently an important extension of the Museum, is a unique example of Art Deco architecture.
The 18-hectare park, which includes gardens and a farm, is a unique reference in the landscape heritage, designed in the 1930's by Jacques Gréber (a relevant French architect, specialising in landscape architecture and urban design). It harmoniously integrates the Museum and Villa buildings, and is also a place for a permanent sculpture exhibition with works belonging to the Museum collection.
The Contemporary Art Museum, which includes an Auditorium, opened in 1999, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira (Pritzker Prize winner in 1992). It is the first and most important museum of contemporary art in Portugal.
With a vibrant and diversified program, aimed at a wide range of publics, Serralves is also distinguished by educational programs and festivals that involve the community.
The Foundation is located in a central area of Porto, with good access from the historical centre and main roads, either by car or by public transport networks (train, metro, bus and tourist circuits).
