The EDP Foundation is located in an area of 38 thousand square meters on the north bank of Tejo River, in the historic area of Belém. Here, the iconic power station dating back to the early 20th century and the new building MAAT (Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology), designed by London studio Amanda Levete Architects, coexist and offer a diverse cultural programme. The Tejo Power Station has been modernized, maintaining its focus on science and energy but continuing to host temporary exhibitions of contemporary art in its four galleries. The new building also includes four exhibition spaces, totaling approximately three thousand square meters. The two buildings - MAAT and Tejo Power Station - are connected since October 2016 by a garden designed by landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic, offering an outstanding leisure space, with free access, along Lisbon’s riverfront.
Central Tejo is installed in a building that is a unique example of industrial architecture from the first half of the 20th century in Portugal. The building, classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1986, has an imposing iron structure covered with brick, and reveals on its facades several artistic styles, from new art to classicism.
In addition to all its exhibition component and national reference, Central Tejo is also the ideal space for holding corporate events, cocktails or dinners. The Turbine Hall is the most emblematic space with a privileged view over the Tejo River.
The MAAT building is mostly an exhibition space, however it is possible to hold occasional events in its exhibition spaces to agree depending on the availability in view of the EDP Foundation's exhibition schedule. However, the exterior space - MAAT Rooftop corresponds to a unique place for holding cocktails, photo shoots or a commercial advertising films.
