Designed to celebrate the festive year of 2001, when Porto was the European Capital of Culture, Casa da Música is the first building in Portugal exclusively dedicated to Music, whether in presentation and public enjoyment, or in artistic training and creation.
The Casa da Música project was established in 1999, as a result of an international architecture competition that chose the solution presented by Rem Koolhaas - Office for Metropolitan Architecture. Works began in 1999, where the old Remise do Porto in Boavista was located, and Casa da Música was inaugurated in Spring 2005, on April 15th.
