Frederico de Freitas House-Museum occupies the Calçada Palace, former residence of the Counts of Calçada, whose origin dates back to the 17th century. Highly refurbished in the 19th century, the building became, in the middle of the following century and for 38 years, the house of Frederico de Freitas. Lawyer and notary, this distinguished Madeiran collector gathered an impressive set of works of art, bequeathed by his death to the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
