The Algarve Jazz Orchestra was founded in 2004 by the renowned national jazz trumpeter Hugo Alves. This Jazz Big Band, which has 18 permanent musicians, including voices, is the only professional jazz orchestra in the south of the country. In addition to concerts for the general public, it also performs in private events, either with all the elements, or in smaller formations adapted the venues. It usually collaborates with DMCs and tourism entities. With a vast repertoire that goes far beyond traditional jazz, it has shows specially adapted to Latin Jazz, Bossa Jazz or even to the American Songbook, through legends such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Glenn Miller. Also worthy to mention is Jazz Rock, with themes by Elvis Presley or Frank Sinatra.
