Portugal is Europe's Leading Destination 2017

For the first time, Portugal was voted Europe's Leading Destination in the World Travel Awards, considered the "Oscars" of tourism.
Also Turismo de Portugal, I.P. won the award for Europe's Leading Tourist Board for the fourth time in a row.
There were several awards given to Portuguese regions or entities, most notably Madeira, considered Europe's Leading Island Destination, the Algarve, which won Europe's Leading Beach Destination, and the Port of Lisbon, voted Europe's Leading Cruise Port.
The World Travel Awards were first held in 1993 as a recognition of the global tourism industry. Winners are selected worldwide and the ceremony this year took place on September 30th in the city of St. Petersburg.
