Portugal – 3rd safest country of the world

Portugal is the third safest country of the world and the safest of the European Union, according to the ranking of the Global Peace Index 2020, released by the Institute for Economics & Peace.
The country has maintained last year’s score amongst 163 independent states and territories, being only overcome by Iceland and New Zealand, that have also remained on first and second positions, respectively.
Global Peace Index is based on 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators and measures the state of peace across three domains: the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict and the degree of Militarisation.
