Meo Arena will host the first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest on Portuguese soil in 2018, after RTP announced that the city chosen to host the event is Lisbon. The event will take place on 8th, 10thand 12thMay.

"It is an RTP business decision, validated by Eurovision. If you want it is a co-decision, and it is due to a set of criteria. It is not only the venue, but also the public squares Lisbon offers, hotel capacity, proximity to the airport and to a hospital, even the proximity to RTP weighs in. It is much easier and practical to manage this operation at a short distance, so there is a whole set of determinant valences”, comments Gonçalo Reis, Board of Directors Chairman to the Portuguese public TV station. According to Publituris, Abreu DMC is the agency that will support the event, having been chosen by public tender.

On the other hand, the next edition of RTP Song contest will be held at Multiusos in Guimarães, in March 2018.
