Red Bull Air Race 2017
Around 850 thousand people attended the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, held between Porto and Gaia, over the Douro River, on September 2nd and 3rd. These figures were released by the organiser, that also mentioned the total number of spectators from the previous five stages of this year's edition had been surpassed.
In addition to the competition, the event was also attended by paragliding and skydiving athletes, complemented with giant screens in open spaces, and allowing a better visualisation of the acrobatics by the public.
The return of the race to the cities of Porto and Gaia, after 8 years, proves the increasing notoriety of the Porto and North region, as well as the high professionalism in organising this type of events.
The Minister for Economic Affairs expressed his willingness to keep Portugal on the route of these aircraft competitions, and for this reason it is crucial that all the actors involved continue to work together to ensure this event's continuity.
